Whatever the goal or destination may be, the medium to that destination for a lot of us is going to be our cars.
We all want our ride with family to be as smooth and pleasant as possible, so it is paramount that we don’t become complacent as we dive into the holiday season. With increasing traffic and changing weather conditions, it is critical to consider one of the most important factors for a smooth and safe ride- tyre health. Every vehicle stands and runs on tyres as its foundation and thus one needs to make sure they are well maintained and that the wear and damage are kept in check.
Regular pressure checks: It is important that you check the tyre pressure at least once a month and before a long trip as tyres lose pressure with time. Be sure to check the pressure when the tyres are cold as hot tyres can show inaccurate pressure readings. It is best to check the tyre pressure first thing in the morning before you drive.
Checking tread depth: Driving with a bald tyre can be dangerous, especially on a wet road, as such a tyre offers little to no grip. Checking the tyre’s tread depth regularly will help you keep it in check and change the tyres if required.
Rotating tyres: Due to the fact that the front tyres carry most of the car’s weight and wear faster compared to the rear tyres. Checking for wear and damage: Regularly check your tyres for uneven or excessive wear and damage. Maintain your spare: The only thing worse than having a flat tyre in the middle of a trip is discovering your spare tyre is flat too. It is best to check your spare tyre just as regularly as your other tyres.
Avoid overloading: Overloading is the second most common cause of tyre damage after underinflation. It is extremely dangerous and can even cause a blowout. Overloading can also be caused by an uneven distribution of load.
Check wheel alignment: Wheels that are not aligned properly wear quicker and in an uneven manner. Alignment can also be caused by potholes, and prolonged use and affect your handling of the vehicle.
Replace tyres when required: Your car’s tyres are the only thing making contact with the road you are driving on, and even though they may not be cheap, tyres are one of the most important purchases a car owner can make. So, when it is time to replace your tyres, do not try to save by getting cheap ones. Invest in a good quality tyre that gives better comfort, performance and safety.
